Aho x Materialised
In September we celebrated the launch of the Aho Collection, our first commercial collaboration with Materialised, at their Auckland office. What a surreal experience it was to walk into a space for the first time and find it adorned floor to ceiling in our design language. A bespoke lampshade, upholstered ottomans, swathes of fabric hanging from hooks, and a spectacular palette of colour, texture and pattern layered across wood, bamboo, fabric, tile and leather. Interior fantasies!
Materialised specialise in bespoke commercial interiors for hospitality, healthcare, education, workplaces and more. Having worked with the team on several projects, we spent many months developing a consolidated collection in close partnership. It's eight designs, each begun by hand as a pencil sketch, watercolour or linocut, and connected to the next through a shared design whakapapa. The collection is available across commercial textiles, wall covering and acoustic substrates, for those who want to weave a uniquely Aotearoa-centred worldview into spaces that most often offer only a "global" palette.
Like nearly every project we've embarked on over the last decade, this one is personal. It meets a yearning for spaces that speak to us and hold us as we are.
