Tū Māia Jacket - Short SAMPLE SALE

$200.00 $80.00

 End of line clearance:

One of our unwavering values since we began is not buying into the fast fashion culture of 'sales'. Our goal has always been to pay a fair and sustainable wage for top spec materials and quality, and sell it at a price that is as accessible as possible and means that we can remai viable and sustainable as a business.

As we shift gears and prioritise what sparks joy in 2023 if feels like the right time to clear out our studio.

And so for the first and only time ever, we offer you our Kakahu collection at clearance prices. It's our equivalent of 'we're closing down this part of our pakihi and eveything must go'.
We are unable to exchange clearance items.

We will not be manuacturing our Aho Wahine Collection again in the forseeable future as we hone in on a smaller focus for Aho.

Tū Māia literally means to stand courageously. For us, that whakaaro came as we considered the contexts we live in every day. This Kākahu is intended as one that wraps you in an awhi and whispers ‘you got this’.

This garment can be either worn as an outer layer or a mid layer. A comfortable loose cut with a mid-wrist length sleeve that can be folded up or left longer.

Two deep pockets add discreet practicality.

This jacket comes with a fabric tie and belt loops which allow you to cinch the jacket in at the waist or tie it at the reverse for a elongated visual line. When worn closed, the overlap at the bust is generous to allow you to wear it closed as a top in it’s own right.

This jacket comes in two lengths, hip length and mid-thigh.

This item is the SHORT/HIP length.

Design Details

This garment comes in two fabric types with two print designs.

The print design Rauru is inspired by the energy of new life and unfolding potential. ‘Rauru’ is quite literally the maternal end of the umbilical cord- the flow of life. It is the embrace of two elements in whakairo;a double spiral. The twining of multiple threads in raranga. And in the space between this embrace, dwell light, life and energy.

The print design Rauponga is a whakairo (carving) inspired depiction of the fronds of our distinctive native ponga tree fern. Unique in our ngahere (forests),her fronds intertwine, sheltering new growth beneath, dappling the light, and for those who look skyward, weaving an intricate kaleidoscope.

Material

1). 60%  European Linen 40% Certified Organic Cotton (Red and Green)

This Cotton-Linen blend has a smooth, polished hand feel. It is a slightly lighter weight than the Cotton Flax blend and will continue to soften and relax with wash and wear. This fabric is perhaps slightly more 'dressy' than the cotton-flax.

Linen is renowned for its resilience and breathability.

2). 85% Certified Organic Cotton, 15% Indian Flax Linen (Cream and Navy)

This fabric has a natural slightly textured hand feel. It is a slightly heavier weight fabric to the Cotton-Linen blend, but is a comfortable medium weight with a natural breathability.

Certified organic cotton is grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers or hazardous pesticides, which protects biodiversity and waterways and builds and maintains soil fertility.
Both Cotton and Linen from the flax plant are sustainable, renewable and biodegradable fibres.
